Manufacturers: How can you track and optimise manual operations?

Many manufacturing and assembly processes still depend on manual operations. Errors can cause expensive rework, the need for product recall, and damage to brand reputation.  Adding layers of checking lowers productivity and adds cost.

A UK consortium consisting of Warwick Manufacturing Group, Lear Corporation, and Fully Distributed Systems, and supported by funding from Innovate UK, has developed three approaches for tracking manual operations that you can see in the video.

A separate project stream, managed by the National Research Council of Canada, analyses video streams of the human operators to identify ergonomic and fatigue issues.

Together, these enable process designers to fully understand and optimise manual production processes.
